Here another long delayed sequel that has seen new life thanks to the governing body at Netflix. It appears that Eddie Murphy will indeed don his police shield for a fourth go around as maverick cop Axel Foley. The film which will be helmed by Mark Molloy will be titled fittingly enough Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Very original if you ask me but hey I’m all for Murphy’s return just as long as he’s able to be as politically incorrect with his humor and mayhem like he was back then.
Murphy will also produce the film as well along with veteran blockbuster mogul Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Will Beall, who penned the screenplay for DC‘s Aquaman, is writing the script so that does bode well for the fourth movie.
Recent cast additions made known today to join Murphy include because Joseph Gordon-Levitt(Looper, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) and Taylour Paige (Zola, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, White Boy Rick). Not a bad co-starring group if I do say so.
It was well documented that Murphy wouldn’t do the film unless the script was to his liking so hopefully this one will bring the franchise back from the doldrums after the third entry was less than stellar. Like I stated above, a movie like this will only work if it’s done right and that means letting Murphy off his leash to do what he does best which is catch criminals and rapid fire one liners with impeccable comedic timing. We shall see.
The one big question mark is Malloy himself who is diving into the deep end of the director’s pool after only having shot some promos for Apple, Nissan, and the website domain registrar Go Daddy. Not a stellar resume for someone helming a big budget sequel that needs to strike fire with nostalgia amongst genre fans.
Keep it locked and loaded right here for more to come on the Beverly Hills Cop Netflix film as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
