Filming has finally begun on filmmaker Zack Snyder’s latest Netflix endeavor titled Rebel Moon and just like his previous output for the streaming service, this one looks even more epic in size and scale. The film which definitely has a Star Wars universe vibe to it has unveiled new first look images courtesy of Snyder himself and one photo is a haunting portrait of  Djimon Hounsou’s character. Take a peek below!

Along with Hounsou’s first look, we also get our first taste of one of the starships for the movie with an inside/outside look.

The official synopsis for Rebel Moon reads: The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand the Tyrant.

Snyder has rounded up a first rate cast for this new space opera which includes Sofia Boutella, who will star as the mysterious young woman, and she stars along with Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Ray Fisher, Rupert Friend, Stuart Martin, Michiel Huisman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Alfonso Herrera.

If you ask me, the film has a distinct Star Wars meets The Magnificent Seven vibe to it with a dash of Blackhawk Down and with Snyder at the helm, the visuals will definitely be out of this world. Pun intended.

Snyder has stated in the past that this movie stems from a love of all things Star Wars and Akiro Kurosawa. Snyder hopes that Rebel Moon will be able to expand its universe and transform into a massive franchise complete with spin-off potential. Expect more images to drop in the future ad Snyder does like to tease his fans while filming his movies.
