John Cena is one busy man. The star of Peacemaker has a slate of upcoming projects to go along with the upcoming second season of HBOMAX’s hit DC series.
The latest news on a hot Cena project comes to us via Deadline who is reporting that the wrestling superstar, actor and all around entertainment juggernaut is set to star in a new action-comedy titled Officer Exchange.
Per Deadline: Cena will play Shepard “Shep,” a wrecking ball of a cop who teams up with an Indian police officer to take down a diamond smuggling ring in India.
Ben Zazove and Evan Turner are co-penning the script for the flick which was recently acquired by Amazon Studios. Cena is executive producing and Peacemaker producers Peter Safran and John Rickard of The Safran Company will serve as producers of the film for Amazon.
Along with Officer Exchange, Cena will also be seen in Freelance, another action film from Taken director Pierre Morel. In that film, Cena plays “an ex special forces operator who takes a job to provide security for a journalist as she interviews a dictator, but, a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, they are forced to escape into the jungle where they must survive.”
Cena’s hit series Peacemaker, which is based off his character from the hit movie The Suicide Squad, was a rousing success for HBOMAX and a second season was rapidly green-lit.
It’s kind of a bummer that we probably won’t see the action film Cena made with Jackie Chan. The film, originally titled Project X-Traction and later changed to SNAFU, was helmed by Act of Valor and EXPENDABLES 4 director Scott Waugh. It has had an interesting and sordid history and many sources are saying it’s been shelved due to the apparent conflict between the US and China over trade relations. There’s a whole slew of other reasons as well but I won’t get into it. We shall see what happens.
At any rate, Cena has moved on and is definitely climbing the ladder of film success outside of the wrestling world so fret not fans of the “You can’t see me” superstar. He’s got plenty on his plate and who knows, maybe one day we will see the Chan-Cena team up because after all, money does talk.
Keep it locked and loaded right here for more 411 on Cena as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
