MEG 2: THE TRENCH- Old & New Cast Members Announced as Filming is Underway for the Jason Statham led Sequel! (Update: Wu Jing Joins the Follow Up!)

By: John M Jerva

We have a colossal new update to this post which I just put out a while ago. According to AFS on Twitter, international action and martial arts star Wu Jing has enlisted for the sequel to The Meg!

To go along with the announcement, there are some BTS images of Jing on set.

Unfortunately, there is no word on his character but let’s hope he’s able to bust out some moves!

(Original Post) Cameras have been rolling for a month now on Meg 2: The Trench and we have some more details to reveal as THR has announced who’s returning from the first film as well as new additions. We also have a little more info on plot details so let’s delve right in!

According to the report, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Page Kennedy are all set to return. While Bai Ling wasn’t mentioned, there is a rumor that she will be back as well.

New cast additions include Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Skyler Samuels (The Gifted), and Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Rambo: Last Blood).

THR elaborated on the new cast which may shed some light on the plot.

“Peris-Mencheta is playing one of the film’s antagonists, a hard-edged mercenary. Guillory is the head of an applied sciences division, while Samuels is an adventure-loving member of Statham’s submarine crew.”

One takeaway from the above quote is that there will be human antagonists for Statham to deal and they will be of the mercenary variety. So The Stath will not only have to contend with enormous, prehistoric sharks but he’s also going to have to open a can of whoop ass on some highly trained baddies so we will get some tasty fight set pieces to go along with the gigantic shark action.

Filming is expected to run until May so hopefully we will get some images and footage to keep things interesting. Ben Wheatley is at the helm this time around.

It’s good that we got some good Statham news in light that the action star’s upcoming flick Operation Fortune was removed from the release schedule until further notice. He also will hopefully have Expendables 4 hit sometime this year. We will keep you posted.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more to follow as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
