STXfilms Pulls Jason Statham’s OPERATION FORTUNE: RUSE DE GUERRE from the Release Schedule

By: John M Jerva

Now the movie companies are messing with The Stath and that’s not cool.

Reports are saying that STXfilms has pulled Jason Statham’s upcoming Guy Ritchie action-comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre with less than a month to go until the film was to hit theaters. The movie, which reunites Statham with filmmaker Guy Ritchie was to finally hit theaters on March 18th after first being delayed from its original January 21st launch date.

No official statement was given, and the film is now listed as unset. If you visit the official site, it simply says that the pic is now “coming soon.”

In an ever-changing theatrical climate, theatrical films are still feeling the pinch of the COVID pandemic and even though we don’t know why the movie was delayed, all thoughts immediately go to that.

It’s unclear whether STXfilms will release Operation Fortune later in theaters are just dump it on streaming platforms. The company could also sell it off to another buyer who in turn will do whatever it wants with it.

Personally, if you ask me, I’m pretty frustrated with movie studios teasing films and showing us trailers and announcing release dates only to pull them or delay them even longer. I understand that these are still uncertain times we are living in, but Hollywood is going to have to figure this out. Like I’ve said in the past, I am a huge fan of theaters ever since I was a young boy and there’s nothing like seeing action and other genres on the big screen but I’m at the point where I’ll just take streaming and watch it in the comfort of my own house.

The moral of the story is, we are all going to have to wait longer for our Statham fix. The action star also has the highly anticipated Expendables 4 set to hit sometime this year so let’s hope nothing happens to that one. Lionsgate is handling that film so who knows what will happen as it is anybody’s guess at this point.

RELEASE DATE: WHO KNOWS

In Operation Fortune, “super spy Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) must track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology wielded by billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant). Reluctantly teamed with some of the world’s best operatives (Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone), Fortune and his crew recruit Hollywood’s biggest movie star Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett) to help them on their globe-trotting undercover mission to save the world.”

This sucks big time so keep it locked and loaded right here for more news hopefully on the horizon as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond.

In the meantime, check out the official trailer again as that’s the only footage we’ll be seeing from the movie for some time to come.
