(Original Post) Any and all news on the planned sequel to The Meg with Jason Statham has been idle for months but now it looks like things are Revving up. The Stath is finally ready to take on another Megalodon as cameras are finally set to roll on the follow up which is tentatively titled Meg 2: The Trench.
Word comes out of KFTV that the sequel will shoot at the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on January 24th and production will last until May. Statham recently wrapped production on Expendables 4 so it looks like there will be no rest for the wicked as Statham will head right into another big film.
KFTV mentions in the report that Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which houses its operations just outside of London, has two water tanks which include one exterior and one located inside D Stage.
Statham will, of course, be reprising his role of Jonas Taylor who took on not one but two Megs in the original. It is said that Statham has has more creative control of the sequel so here’s hoping it’s more violent then the original. It was well documented that Statham has issues with the watering down of the first film and had stated that it was originally supposed to be more graphic in nature.
Ben Wheatley will be helming this time around from a script penned by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber who all were involved in writing the previous entry.
The first film met with its share of criticism but I found it deliciously fun and anytime you get to see Statham jab a huge friggin shark in the eye with a harpoon, it’s a win.
Plot details and casting news are non existent but expect that to heat up in the coming weeks as filming commences.
Keep it locked and loaded right here for more on Meg 2 as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
