Michael Bay & Patrick Hughes Team with Gareth Evans for a Reimagining of THE RAID for Netflix

By: John M Jerva

Deadline is reporting that Netflix is circling a reimagining of the epic Indonesian action pic The Raid. According to sources, Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) is on board to helm with the Bay-Hem master himself Michael Bay and XYZ Films tapped to produce.

Hollywood has since been trying to reboot the title ever since and this looks like the one that will finally make it to production. This version is set in Philadelphia’s drug-infested ‘Badlands’, an elite undercover DEA task force climb a ladder of cartel informants to catch an elusive kingpin.

The original film is a staple in the action genre and the measuring bar for action films that have come since. Iko Uwais starred in both films in which Gareth Evans directed. Evans will executive produce with Hughes co-writing the script with James Beaufort.

“We’re incredibly excited about Patrick’s unique vision for this film. It’s a distinctly original take on the material, which promises to pay great respect to the original film while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will set its own course in the action genre,” the producers said in an official statement.

There was a time when Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo were tackling this project for their War Party production banner but it looks as if that ship has sailed.

Netflix has partnered with Evans on past and future projects so it’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out including who will star in it. Fans will definitely be hesitant to embrace this one as the original is considered one of the best action films of all time.

I do feel a little confident with Evans involved so hopefully they get the casting right along with a fight team and choreographer that can bring something new to the table.

Stay tuned for more details and keep it locked and loaded right here as we are your destination for everything action in 2022 and beyond!
