Sony Pictures Shifts Release Dates for AMBULANCE & BULLET TRAIN in 2022

By: John M Jerva

In the last few years, I’ve grown accustom to not getting excited when a movie’s release date is announced because in this era, it’s never a sure thing. Sure movies have shuffled around before in the past but with a pandemic on the loose, it’s been Russian Roulette when it comes to any film hitting a metroplex.

Ironically, these films I have to talk about doesn’t seem to be a factor of COVID but it sounds more like Sony is just trying to put them in better positions.

First up, we have Michael Bay’s latest Bay-hem spectacle Ambulance which stars Jake Gyleenhaal. It switches launch dates from February 18, 2022, to April 8, 2022 after Sony decided to move David Leitch’s Bullet Train from that weekend. It’s stated that it happened so Bullet Train wouldn’t have to compete with Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 2 so it looks like Sony has more faith in Bay. Also Ambulance would be competing with Uncharted so it looks like the move will ensure more success for that film. Ambulance stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez in a story about two robbers who steal an ambulance after their heist goes awry.

Are you keeping up? Good, let’s move on.

With that switch, Sony Pictures is now dropping Bullet Train smack dab in the middle of the summer movie season as it will now open on July 15th. The David Leitch helmed actioner “follows five assassins that find themselves on a Japanese bullet train where they realize that their individual assignments are all interconnected.” The All-Star cast includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Masi Oka, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, Bad Bunny, and Sandra Bullock.

A trailer for Bullet Train has not been released yet.

I’m very eager to see both films and they will be included in my Must See Flix for 2022 when I put it out before year’s end.

On a side note, Universal Pictures delayed F10 from April 7, 2023, to May 19, 2023. No reason was given for that switcheroo but delaying a Fast movie is becoming expected nowadays.

Keep it locked and loaded for any more shifting dates as we are your destination for everything action!!!
