Filming on the long awaited Expendables film recently got underway and the film’s main star has already finished filming his scenes for the movie thus confirming that he doesn’t have a huge role in the pic. Sylvester Stallone, who created the franchise and was the main star of the films emotionally said goodbye to the series in a post on Instagram.
Stallone posted on the site that it was his last day of filming and that he was “ready to pass the baton on to Jason.”
“This will be my last day,” Stallone stated in the video. “I”m enjoying it, but it’s always bittersweet when something you’ve been so attached to – I guess since, well now it’s been about 12 years – and ready to pass the baton on to Jason in his capable hands. The greatest thing is being able to provide films that somewhat entertain and maybe there’s a little message in there because what I try to convey in my successful films is the human touch. Not so much the action, the action is self-evident, but it’s just relating to the audience in a way that they can identify with whatever the mission is with the characters at hand … Just providing some escapism and hoping there’s a little something extra in there.”

Eoin Friel of The Action Elite and myself stated a while back that Stallone’s Barney Ross might be killed off thus prompting his right hand man Lee Christmas, played by Jason Statham, and the rest of the Expendables to go on a mission of vengeance. This is all speculation though and Ross could bow out without dying as well. Maybe he’s just weary of this life and wants to move on.
An official synopsis hasn’t been released yet but there are rumors that this entry will be the Lee Christmas spin-off film as well as a fourth installment in the popular action franchise. We will have to wait and see how they handle the transition from Ross to Christmas when the time comes.
Plot points still remain locked up at this time but we do know that Stallone is back with Jason Statham, Randy Couture and Dolph Lundgren as the original cast. New additions include Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Andy Garcia and Tony Jaa who up to this point has been the only real action star addition to get fans excited about. Jaa’s role along with the other additions is also unknown so we wait and wait for more 411.
Stunt pro Scott Waugh takes over in the director’s chair and he helms from a script penned by Spenser Cohen with current revisions turned in by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly.
Keep it locked and loaded right here for more details to come as the next Expendables film is officially filming!
