Nicolas Cage Saddles Up for His First Ever Western, THE OLD WAY!

By: John M Jerva

While we wait for Nicholas Cage’s most wild film yet (we’ll, according to him) in Prisoners of the Ghostland, we have some current 411 on his next project which will be his first ever conventional western. Cage will star in The Old Way and with it, will take on a role that Clint Eastwood would be proud of.

Per Deadline: In The Old Way, Cage will star as Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger who now runs a general store and lives quietly with his family. When a gang of outlaws murders his wife in cold blood, Briggs returns home to find his world burning. He unearths his sidearm and saddles up with an unlikely partner: his twelve-year-old daughter.

I think with all the unusual films that Cage has put out in recent years, a good old fashioned western is a good change of pace for the reclusive actor.

“After 43 years in cinema, I’m only now being invited to the important and storied genre of the Western with both The Old Way and Butcher’s Crossing,” said Cage. “Being born and raised in the West, this is another good match and long overdue. I’m excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and to find new ground to play at 57 is indeed galvanizing.”

The Old Way will be helmed by Brett Donowho who is best known for directing Acts of Violence. Carl W. Lucas penned the script and Capstone is set to launch during this week’s Toronto Film Festival market.

Anything Cage does is gold and now we have him tackling an iconic genre made famous by Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and others who have come before. Keep it locked and loaded right here for more on The Old Way as we are your destination for everything action!
