PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND: Nicolas Cage’s Western/Samurai Mash Up Unloads on Blu-Ray this November!

By: John M Jerva

Nic Cage’s wildest film to date, well according to him, hasn’t even reached theaters or streaming platforms yet but an announcement has already been made on when it will launch on physical media. The film which also features cult Asian action star Tak Sakaguchi (Re:Born, Versus) is said to be one insane offering for starving genre fans and is being described as a “delirious mash-up of Western, samurai, and post-apocalyptic thriller.”

Word has come that the movie will be release on Blu-Ray and DVD on November 16th which is roughly one month after its streaming debut on September 17th. You can even pre-order a copy on Amazon right now if you fancy holding your movies in the palm of your hand.

Helmed by Sion Sono from a script penned by Aaron Hendry and Reza Sixo Safai, the official synopsis reads:

“In the treacherous frontier city of Samurai Town, where a ruthless bank robber (Cage) is sprung from jail by wealthy warlord The Governor (Bill Moseley), whose adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) has gone missing. The Governor offers the prisoner his freedom in exchange for retrieving the runaway. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within three days, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman — and his own path to redemption.”

There is also a cool prequel comic book that just came out which chronicles the events leading up to the movie which you can get from from Patriot Comic Books as we speak.

Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Nick Cassavetes (Face/Off), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Franchise), and Yuzuka Nakaya (The Forest of Love). The biggest thrill for me in this one is that Japanese bad ass Tak Sakaguchi also has a part in it and here’s hoping that he is utelized to his fullest.

To satisfy you until the film’s release, check out our man Anthony Francis’ take on the film where he called it “an explosion of genres and styles that is entertaining and invent.” Read his full review here!

Do t worry though, as soon as I see it, you can bet I’ll give my thoughts on this anticipated pic in a special video review of The Action Fix on YouTube.

Watch the trailer one more time to fully immerse yourself in what to expect from this all out genre mash up of carnage!
