Even though the reboot for Resident Evil has been delayed until November, Sony Pictures has still released a trio of first look images for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City which features the cast all armed and ready to take on what threats my ahead. Check them out in the gallery below.

In the once booming home of the pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

The film stars Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Code 8) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin. It was also recently announced that newer cast additions included Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons, Chad Rook as Richard Aiken, Lily Gao is Ada Wong, and Marina Mazepa is Lisa Trevor.

Director Johannes Roberts, who was the ringmaster behind this latest installment, talked about his creation and elaborated on bringing the franchise back to its roots and films that influenced this newer version of the hit video game franchise.

“This movie really had nothing to do with the previous franchise. This was all about returning to the games and creating a movie that was much more a horror movie than the sort of sci-fi action of the previous films. I was hugely influenced in particular by the remake of the second game and I really wanted to capture the atmosphere-drenched tone that it had. It was so cinematic. The previous movies were very bright and shiny whereas this movie was dark and grimy, entirely shot at night. It’s constantly raining and the town is shrouded in mist. … I was hugely influenced by movies like The Exorcist (and Exorcist 3!), Don’t Look Now, and The Shining. You can really feel the texture in this movie. Nothing in this town feels hi-tech. It feels dilapidated. I wanted Raccoon City to feel a bit like the town in Deer Hunter; a ghost town forgotten by the rest of the world. And the whole structure of the film was definitely very influenced by Assault on Precinct 13.”

The initial franchise really went off the rails so it looks like this time around, it’s going to be more grounded and true to the horror elements. From the one image that should give some people nightmares for a month, it looks like the gore and special effects will be in full effect.

Sony has announced that the film will be delayed from its initial September 3rd launch and will now hit later in the year on November 24th.

Expect a trailer to drop anytime so keep it locked and loaded right here as we are your destination for everything action!
