SKULL: The Newest PREDATOR Outing will Take the Franchise Back to its Savage Roots!

By: John M Jerva

First of all, the first Predator is a legit, no doubt about it, classic. Secondly, I’ve enjoyed each and every sequel thereafter for various reasons and even the last one offered some bright spots and yes…yes I’ve seen it more than once. Sue me.

With that, this past week we got a lot of 411 on the next outing featuring everyone’s favorite trophy hunting alien and surprisingly, they’re two thirds into filming it.

Collider got some exclusive info about the newest Predator movie and the title will be…drum role please…Skull. I’ll be the first to say that I love that title and think it’s fitting for the franchise where skulls are the prize.

Producers John Davis and John Fox, while doing press for Disney’s Jungle Cruise which they also produced, talked about the next entry which is being helmed by Dan Trachtenberg.

Skull will take the franchise back to its Savage roots and go way back in time when the Predator first came to Earth. Just like Schwarzenegger taking on the alien invader on his own in the last third of the original, this time around a female Comanche warrior will be the lead heroine who goes up against the trophy hunter.

“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force,” Davis stated in the article.

“It actually has more akin to The Revenantthan it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it,” promised Fox, though Davis declined to reveal the specific time period. “You can use your imagination. It is… early.”

The other big question on everyone’s mind is whether Skull will be R rated like the others or go the more family friendly route of PG-13. All the other installments were bloody fun and held the R rating mantle with pride.

“It all depends on how you end up cutting it, right? It was conceived as an R-rated movie. It could easily end up PG-13. I guess I’m going to find out what it has to be or what it is when it’s all cut together.”

Aside from the first one, fans have had issues with each sequel that came out and with this one, they are literally going back k to the bare bones drawing board and this one might be the best one to come around since Schwarzenegger shouted “Get to da choppa!”

With the film well underway with the cameras rolling, we might get our first look footage soon and let me tell you that will be some highly anticipated footage. it’s interesting how much of a secret this movie is in today’s day and age of social media as we don’t even know who stars in the damn thing. Good job fellas. Nothing will ever top the original but it will be interesting to see how close this one gets…if at all.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more on Skull as we are your destination for everything action!
