Norris, Swayze & McQueen Engage in the Hunt as the Old School 90’s Actioner DEATH RING Finally Hits Blu-Ray!

By: John M Jerva

Well here’s a movie I haven’t seen in years and I proudly owned it at one time on VHS. The old school actioner Death Ring is hitting Blu-Ray soon and this one is a pretty solid low budgeted affair that stars Norris, Swayze and McQueen to boot.

OK, I know the heading is s little misleading but it does star all three although we’re talking about Chuck’s son Mike Norris, Patrick’s brother Don Swayze and Steve’s son Chad McQueen. I know it’s not the others but these men had a pretty decent career back in the day and here they deliver the action.

Throw in the late, great Billy Drago as the main antagonist and genre fans will have fun discovering this one for the first time or if you’re like me, rediscovering it. Check out the key art below!

Coming soon from CODE RED DVD

Death Ring (1992)

Ex-Green Beret Matt Collins is kidnapped along with his fiancée, Lauren Sadler, by crazed hunter extraordinaire Danton Vachs. Every year he holds a contest where people can purchase the right to hunt down and kill a human being. This time, Collins is to be the hunted. Vachs uses Lauren as motivation for Collins to really fight to survive and thus provide the buyers with a truly exceptional hunt. Collins is turned loose on an uncharted island and four killers set out to find and kill him.

From what I remember, the plot was nothing to write home about and it’s another retread of The Most Dangerous Game where man is hunted for sport. The action doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it’s still pretty solid and Mike Norris does an admirable nod in the action hero lead role with Swayze and McQueen offering backup. McQueen probably had the least amount of screen time of all three.

Norris gets ample opportunity to showcase some effective combat moves in the film’s action sequences.

Code Red will be releasing this 90’s action gem on Blu-Ray soon so check back here for more 411 in the future.

Check out the original trailer below with Mike doing his best impersonation of his legendary dad!
