Netflix is really amping up their service with original programming which ranges from children’s shows snd movies, foreign flicks and some cool Anime. The latter is what we’ve come here to talk about today as the streaming giant has unseathed a brand new trailer for their latest animated endeavor titled YASUKE. The series is based on a real life character who was a legendary black samurai who served under warlord Oda Nobunaga in 16th Century Japan. Check out the promo and key art for one of the greatest warriors you probably never heard about!

Official Synopsis: The tale is set in a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.

The anime series was created by LeSean Thomas who also serves as executive producer and director on the project. and it is a co-production between Netflix and MAPPA, the Japanese animation who is best known for the final season of Attack on Titan. Director and animator Takeshi Koike has created the character designs of the series with Flying Lotus handling the music for the series.

Coincidentally, the late, great Chadwick Boseman who portrayed Black Panther in the MCU was attached at one point to do a live action film based on the character before his untimely death.

“The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai,” Boseman has stated in an official statement. “That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.”

The trailer below showcases the story of YASUKE who looked to prove himself as a formidable samurai while fighting for the future of feudal Japan. The promo spot also gives us a sense of the action set pieces that fans are in store for when the series hits Netflix on April 29th snd it looks brutal, bloody and unforgiving. Oscar Nominee LaKeith Stanfield lends his voice talents for YASUKE and the actor is best known for the feature films Selma, Get Out, Knives Out as well as the FX series Atlanta.
