Looks like John Wick star Keanu Reeves is looking towards another franchise in the future as Deadline is reporting that the actor is going to star in and produce a feature film as well as an Anime series based on his own ultra-violent comic book creation BRZRKR. Netflix has, of course, swooped in and secured rights to the film and series as they look to stay on top of the streaming mountain. The comic book, which Reeves created, is published by BOOM! Comics.

Per Deadline: The first issue of the 12-issue limited series launched on March 3 and has already sold over 615,000. The story is about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

The film and series is said to expand on the universe created in the graphic novels and Reeves will produce alongside Ross Richie and Stephen Christy for BOOM! Studios who has an exclusive first look deal with Netflix to make live action films along with animated series based on their properties.
Reeves will play his own creation in the live action film which will hit first and then lend his voice to the character in the Anime series. No stranger to action, Reeves still has a lot of fight left in him so he should deliver in the action department in the film.
Reeves just finished filming on the highly anticipated Matrix 4 and will finally begin production on John Wick 4 which will go in front of the cameras this spring. There’s no word yet if Reeves will do BRZRKR before John Wick 5 as it was announced that the two sequels will no longer shoot back to back.
Streaming services have certainly opened the door for projects like this one to get made and with cinemas still in dire straits, it’s looking like more and more studios will look to the digital era in the future. BRZRKR looks rad enough and will most definitely satisfy crowds who are looking for more adult only action entertainment.
