Ever since I started my little old website almost six years ago, one action star had always been gracious enough to share his time and energy and that someone is Alexander Nevsky. The former bodybuilding champion turned actor and filmmaker is always giving me the goods when it comes to his films and is always readily available for an interview. The man even wishes me happy holidays and birthdays to boot! Nevsky is truly one of the nicest guys in the business.
Well, we have some exciting news about Nevsky’s upcoming action/horror/western hybrid Assault on Rio Bravo and it has to do with a pair of action legends joining the cast that also includes Mr. I Come in Peace himself Matthias Hues. Read the official press release below!
International action stars Michael Pare (Streets of Fire), Olivier Gruner (Nemesis) and Matthias Hues (Dark Angel) will join me in the ASSAULT ON RIO BRAVO. As I told you, it’s an action packed Western with strong Horror elements to be directed by Joe Cornet (A Prayer for the Damned) and executive produced by Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart). Production will start this spring.
Written by Craig Hamann (Showdown in Manila), Assault on Rio Bravo is about:
A bloodthirsty gang of outlaws is on the eve of attacking a border town to free their leader from prison. They’re an army of ruthless killers known as the most dangerous gang in the West. Their plan is to burn the entire town to the ground with everyone who in it. But a handle of warriors led by a mysterious foreigner will stand in their way…

Nevsky states: “The film is inspired by true events and the life story of Ivan Turchaninov, the colonel in the Russian Imperial Guards who immigrated to America in 1856 and later became a Union army brigade general and the only Russian hero of American Civil War. He was better known in North America by his Anglicised name John Basil Turchin.”
“Fight choreographer and stunt coordinator Art Camacho (Half Past Dead) will be responsible for non-stop action.”
“Composer Sean Murray (Deep Blue Sea 2) will serve as a co-producer and will compose the musical score for the ASSAULT ON RIO BRAVO. I will also produce through my Hollywood Storm production shingle.”
Paré is, of course, known for such classics as Streets of Fire and The Philadelphia Experiment while Gruner has kicked butt for years in such goodies as Nemesis, Angel Town and Savage.
Nevsky will star and it will be directed by Joe Cornet (A Prayer for the Damned) and executive produced by Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart) and his ETA Films. Nevsky will also produce under his Hollywood Storm production banner.
“Joe Cornet’s new Western PROMISE will be released on Amazon Prime Video on April 6th 2021. I’m training really hard (with the weights, with the Winchester and Colt, with the horses etc) and looking forward to work with Joe and all our great team!” Nevsky said in the release.
Casting is still currently underway in Los Angeles so expect to hear even more on this one in the near future. I personally think it’ll be quite the sight to see Nevsky ride a horse and blast off with a six shooter. With Paré and Gruner added, expect some finely tuned action sequences with veteran Art Camacho at the helm!
