Just as actor and current action star Liam Neeson recently announced that he was retiring from action films (again!), his newest action offering The Marksman hit the bullseyes at the weekend box office. In a COVID era of cinema, Neeson’s film raked in an estimated $3.2 million and is expected to take in around 3.7 million over the four day Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.
Just to show you how busy I am these days, I didn’t know the movie was even out but alas, it is and in these times when most cinemas are still closed and big blockbusters are non existent, Neeson is taking the opportunity to be king of the box office and actually dethroned Wonder Woman 1984 which held the top spot for two weeks straight.
Directed by Robert Lorenz, the movie also stars Katheryn Winnick of Vikings fame. Lorenz is a longtime producing partner with Clint Eastwood and this is his second directorial effort.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Neeson made another comment saying that he is set to retire from action movies which the actor has said before.
Neeson said that during the filming of his upcoming action film Blacklight, he was starting to feel his age snd thought maybe this was indeed the right time to sep down from high-octane pics.
At any rate, fans still have a few more opportunities to see Neeson and his “particular set of skills” with The Marksman playing now and Blacklight waiting in the rings.
