First of all, I have to make a formal apology as I didn’t include Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead in my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2021. The film which is due to hit Netflix this year sounds like it’s going to be one of the wildest rides from genre fans and throw in Dave Bautista leading the charge, then you have the makings for an instant cult classic. Officially call my Top 10 list my Top 11 and place this one on the high spectrum of it.
Entertainment Weekly has served up a couple of new images for the film which director Zack Snyder is calling “a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie.” I don’t know about you but sign me up for this one STAT! Check out the two newest images featuring Bautista and a majority of the cast below!
Along with the pics, Snyder was interview about his latest zombie thriller where the director talked about how insane the film will be when it hits Netflix.
It is a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie, so it’s genre-on-genre in a great way. So you expect pure zombie mayhem, and you get that, 100 percent. But also you get these really amazing characters on a fantastic journey. It’s going to surprise people that there’s a lot of warmth and real emotion with these great characters.”
The film’s star Dave Bautista also delivered a few quotes in the article and interestingly enough, he wasn’t interested in doing it at first until he read the script snd saw how involved it was.
. “I said I wasn’t interested,” Bautista recalls. “I had this chip on my shoulder and was looking for juicy [dramatic roles]. Then I read the script and it was a lot deeper and had more layers than I thought. And also, to be quite frank, I wanted to work with Zack.”
Another fun fact is that Bautista gave up a role in Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s Suicide Squad to do this film because he eventually believed so much in it.
Official Synopsis: “ARMY OF THE DEAD is an adventure film that takes place after a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.”
Aside from Bautista, the movie also stars Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Huma Qureshi, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro (who replaced Chris D’Elia in reshoots), Hiroyuki Sanada, Nora Arnezeder, Rich Cetrone, Garret Dillahunt, Samantha Win, and Matthias Schweighöfer.
So consider this movie officially on my most anticipated films of 2021 list and it can’t come soon enough. I really enjoyed Snyder’s take on Day of the Dead which was his first directing gig and with this one promising to be more wild, it sounds like a hell of a good bloody time. Hopefully a trailer drops soon and as soon as it does, you’ll see it here!
