We haven’t had any Jason Statham news in a while so I’m pretty excited to bring the news that The Meg 2, which is the sequel to the hit film where The Stath takes on a 100 foot prehistoric shark, is moving along finally and has found its director in Ben Wheatley. The film II’s best known for the Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England, High-Rise, and Netflix’s Gothic Film Rebecca and it’s certainly an interesting choice.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter who also states that Statham not only is expected to return but he will be more “creatively involved.” Jon and Erich Hoeber have penned the most recent script for the follow up from an initial draft by Dean Georgaris. All three worked on the first film.
The Meg was Statham’s most successful solo effort outside The Expendables franchise and bit its way to $530.3 million at the global box office. The film saw Statham “as a shark expert who fights tooth and nail against a giant prehistoric shark called a megalodon.” Jon Turteltaub helmed the film which also starred Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson and Ruby Rose. No other cast members have been announced as of yet.
It was reported when the movie cane out that Statham was Dustin the fact that the shark thriller wasn’t more adult oriented and violent so maybe with the more creative control, he’ll be able to make the film he wants this time. I still enjoyed the film and was happy to see Statham take on a different role then he normally plays.
