WB Delays TENET Indefinitely and Promises an “Unconventional Theatrical Release”

By: John M Jerva

At this point, I’m throwing my hands up and raising the white flag in surrender as Warner Bros. has delayed Christopher Nolan’s Tenet indefinitely as all major cinema chains remain closed. The film was planned for an August release and had been bumped initially from July but for now, the anticipated film is on hold.

In a statement via Deadline, Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, stated “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates. Amidst all this continued uncertainty, we have decided to vacate the current dates for our next two releases. We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that. Additionally, we will be moving the next installment from our most-successful horror franchise, The Conjuring 3, to June 4, 2021.”

It will be interesting to see how all the other major releases that are still set for later this year are handled but it looks like for the foreseeable future, our only new content will be from Digital releases as well as Blu-Ray and DVD for more independent fair. The one good thing is that many smaller films are getting noticed more due to the fact that there are no big blockbusters coming out which is a good thing.

Tenet stars John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) as well as Robert Pattinson (The Batman), Elizabeth Debicki (Widows), Dimple Kapadia (Fugly), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Michael Caine (The Dark Knight Rises) and Kenneth Branagh (Dunkirk).

The film has seen a few trailers released but the plot is being kept under wraps but we do know that it is an espionage thriller that will feature mind blowing visuals which Nolan is known for.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more on this developing situation.
