I remember first walking into my local comic book shop back in the 80’s and discovering four mutant ninja turtles waiting for me to become a fan. It’s funny to note that the first incarnation of the popular brand was actually adult oriented and contained mass amounts of violence and carnage.

Unfortunately, money took over and the Turtles were repackaged for families and children and even then I enjoyed the original theatrical film as well as the latest two movies that rebooted the franchise. The last film didn’t perform all too well and talks of rebooting it again immediately began circling faster then water going down a street drain.

Now comes official word via Deadline that the heroes in a half shell are making a comeback CGI style and it is now in development with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver producing with via their Point Grey Pictures production banner. Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected) is set to Helm the pic from a script penned by Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors: Sorority Rising).

Plot details are non existent at this point and I know it’ll be family friendly again as Nickelodeon Animation Studios is handling the film but maybe we will get some truly watch worthy fight scenes with a little hint of adult oriented material. I can dream can’t I?

With Rogan producing and O’Brien penning the script, maybe this new incarnation will please adults who were there from the beginning like me. This won’t be the first time the Ninja Turtles were given the CGI animated treatment as Warner Bros. Released the 2007 TMNT.

The turtles were, of course, created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 and like I said was an underground comic book geared for adults. The franchise had gone on to spawn six feature films and numerous animated television shows and has become a worldwide money juggernaut.

Another interesting note is that the original four heroes Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Raphael and Donatello recently welcomed a fourth member to their tribe in Jennika, who was a human teenager who was given blood by Donatello and Leonardo to save her life and because it contained the radioactive goo, it transformed her into a Ninja Turtle as well. It’ll be interesting to see if they include her in the new film.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more details to come on the new TMNT project!
