Gerard Butler is dipping his foot into the action pool once again as he is set to reunite with his Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh for the new action-thriller Kandahar for Thunder Road Films.

The report comes via Deadline which states that Butler will “portray the role of an undercover CIA operative named Tom Harris, who is assigned in the Middle East. An intelligence leak dangerously exposes his classified mission and reveals his covert identity. Stuck in the heart of hostile territory, Harris and his translator must fight their way out of the desert to an extraction point in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while eluding the elite special forces hunting them.”

Waugh also co-wrote the script with real life military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune which the film is based on his experiences in Afghanistan.

Christian Mercuri, who is a producer on the film stated, “It’s rare to find the combination of such undeniable talent like we have on Kandahar with Gerard, Alan, Ric and Basil. Add in an amazing action script and you have a feature film that sets the bar very high. I am delighted to work with the whole Kandahar team and to bring this film to the marketplace.”

Thunder Road Films producer Basil Iwanyk added “We are so thrilled to be able to bring the Greenland band back together again. Mitch’s script has always been a jewel in our slate, and to have this team bring it to life is a dream come true for us.”

Along with Iwanyk and Mercuri, Butler will also produce along with Erica Lee while Rob Moran, Brendon Boyea, and Jonathan Fuhrman will serve as executive producers.

Angel Has Fallen was a success grossing over $140 million worldwide so Butler and Waugh have proven to be a winning team in the action game. Keep it locked and loaded right here for more!
