News coming out of the Cannes Film Festival that has gone virtual this year is that Olivia Munn of X-Men: Apocalypse is set to take the lead in a new action-thriller called Replay for Dark Castle Entertainment.

Per The Hollywood Reporter: “Likened by the filmmakers to John Wick and The Raid in terms of its close-quarter action scenes and to The Terminator for its sci-fi storytelling, Replay is the story of Erin Staffer (Munn), whose husband is kidnapped and murdered. Now, armed only with illegal, bleeding edge tech and a desperate plan, Erin must do everything in her power to change the past and save him.

Replay is written and directed by Jimmy Loweree (Absence) with Munn also serving as producer along with Ethan Erwin and Hal Sadoff of Dark Castle Entertainment as well as Robert Bell of Dark Castle co-producing the cool sounding thriller.

The Exchange will be shopping the film around for interested parties, which will be many, and CEO Brian O’Shea stated “We are very excited to announce Olivia Munn’s attachment to Replay. She not only is a wonderful actress, but also well known to our buyers which will help make this strong genre project very popular during the market.”

Ethan Erwin of Dark Castle added, “Audiences are going to witness the birth of the next great action star with Olivia Munn in this film. And our director, Jimmy Loweree, is an incredible young filmmaker, whose vision for this movie is going to blow people away.”

Time will tell if Munn delivers and hopefully the film will deliver and turn into a franchise with Munn breaking out as the next female action force.

I love close quarters combat action flicks and with names like The Raid and John Wick being mentioned as comparison, the action has a lot to live up to. Let’s hope they get an action maestro to coordinate it all.

Keep it locked and loaded right here for more as we are your destination for everything action!
