Here’s another project that I advertised for on my old site and now we have some new images from the upcoming The Old Guard courtesy of Netflix and Vanity Fair that brought the exclusive.
The action epic which is based on a graphic novel stars Charlize Theron as immortal warrior Andromache of Scythia or “Andy” and she was born thousands of years ago and periodically dies in battle only to be resurrected to do it all over again. Now she leads a team just like her who prey on those who prey on the innocent but a new immortal and a CIA operative threatens to break up the mojo of the team.

Helmed by Gina Prince-Bythewood from a script penned by from a graphic novel created by Leandro Fernandez and also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli, Kiki Layne and Marwan Kenzari. Chiwetel Ejiofor also stars as a CIA agent who is hot on the immortal team’s trail and looks to expose them.
Per Vanity Fair: Charlize Theron plays the warrior in the upcoming Netflix film The Old Guard, which picks up with Andromache in the present day. She’s still living off the grid and leading a tactical vigilante team of other immortals that takes out human traffickers, terrorists, and anyone else who preys on the vulnerable and the innocent. But she’s tired. Doubtful. Somewhat hopeless. After all these centuries, the world just seems to be becoming more cruel and agonizing, not less so.

The Old Guard will hit Netflix on July 10th and Theron spoke to Vanity Fair about the project and her character who has endured thousands of years of war.
“It was important to feel the weight of thousands and thousands of years on her,” Theron told Vanity Fair. “The worst part for her is just feeling like she’s not doing anything. So what is the point, you know? She’s lost faith, not just in herself but in humanity. I think a lot of people can relate to that at this moment in time. We go through periods in life where we just look at the world and go, Oh, my God… You just feel like you’re pushing a rock up a mountain.”
I’m super pumped for the film and Netflix is doing really great with original content with Extraction being the newest success story. This film promises “bone-breaking punches, daring escapes, and detonating vast swaths of desert.” Right up my alley so sign me up!
With new theatrical releases on halt, streaming services are picking up the slack for genre fans in need of their next action fix. Netflix, Amazon and others are definitely filling the void for new entertainment choices.
Just like Hemsworth in Extraction and Ryan Reynolds in 6 Underground, Theron brings theater caliber star power to Netflix once again and this one looks like it will be another hit.
While we wait for first footage, check out more images from the film from the article.
