Update: Well Go USA has officially dropped the new trailer for Gundala which hits Blu-Ray on July 28th. Check it out below!

With self isolation a big thing right now, distribution companies are looking for plentiful amounts of films to release on home video and Digital in order to entertain the masses and Well Go USA is definitely ahead of the game with the new acquisition GUNDALA which is a new Indonesian actioner/superhero flick from director Joko Anwar who is best known for Satan’s Slave and the HBO Asia product Halfworlds. Get ready for full on Indonesian superhero awesomeness!

The film is “based on the classic comic, Gundala and is a poignant portrayal of the notion that heroes—whether everyday or superhuman—can be found anywhere (though a superpower never hurts). Indonesian orphan Sancaka spent his life on the streets trying to attract as little attention as possible, but when greed and violence reach a fever pitch in Jakarta, it soon becomes clear that he is the people’s only hope for peace.”

The film stars a bevy of Indonesian action and martial arts talent including The Night Comes for Us’ Abimana Aryasatya as well as The RAID and John Wick: Chapter 3’s Cecep Arif Rahman, Killer’s Tara Basro and Bront Palarae from Satan’s Slave.

GUNDALA made its triumphant debut here in the west at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. You know, when mass gatherings were OK and it garnered some great reviews. The TIFF trailer features some great visuals as well as the expected bone crunching mayhem that the region is known for. A big thanks to the great folks at City On Fire for putting this one on my radar.

GUNDALA hits Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital on July 28th so while we wait for a domestic trailer,
