Vin Diesel’s newest franchise hopeful Bloodshot hits theaters this weekend and way back when, it was announced that this film would be a stepping stone to a bigger cinematic universe featuring more Valiant comic book proper.
However, when Paramount Pictures swooped in and took the fights to another big title Harbinger, those plans seemed to be in jeopardy. The plan was to have solo films which would have culminated in an Avengers style epic film based on Harbinger Wars but with Harbinger now with Paramount and not Sony, that presents an uphill battle.
Diesel still remains hopeful and in a recent interview, he talked about the plans and how they will hopefully come to fruition.
“I think what [Bloodshot] does is that it opens the door for all of them,” Diesel said in an interview with SuperHero Fanatic via The Playlist. “I think you’re going to see all of them. I think if you’re a fan of Valiant Comics, then you are going to be delighted to hear—and I think they’re going to wait until the movie comes out—but they’re going to start putting out into the press all of the Valiant comic books that are going into the cinematic universe. It’s going to be very exciting.”
Now, of course, Diesel stated that they are waiting to see what happens and unfortunately there have been some bleak early word of mouth for Bloodshot with some reviews being less than kind.
I will make my own conclusion as always but I fear that this new universe is in dire straits with the film projected to only take in around $10 million on opening weekend with a $45 million budget and more for on top of that for marketing, Sony is taking a wait and see approach.

Official Synopsis: After he and his wife are murdered, Marine Ray Garrison (played by Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a secret team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine – “Bloodshot.” As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both he and his beautiful wife, he breaks out of the facility hellbent on revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he thought.
Helmed by Dave Wilson, who is best known for working with Deadpool Helmer Tim Miller at Blur Studios, the film also stars Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Sam Heughan (Outlander), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver),Talulah Riley (Westworld), Johannes Haukur Johannesson (Game of Thrones), Lamorne Morris (New Girl, Game Night), Guy Pearce (Prometheus) and Alex Hernandez (Unreal). The script was penned by Eric Heisserer who is an Oscar nomination writer and Diesel is reunited with his Fast And Furious and original xXx producer Neil Moritz.
