It cost them a nice and hefty 8 figures in cash but STXfilms has officially bought the North American, Latin American and Chinese distribution rights to the star studded female driven action/thriller Gunpowder Milkshake which sees stars Michelle Yeoh, Jumanji and the MCU’s Karen Gillan leading the way for a tale of three generations of assassins who are about to have one bloody night.
Per Deadline who dropped the exclusive: The pic tells the story of three generations of female assassins who fight to stop a cycle of violence over the course of one night. STX snapped up the movie after seeing it on promo during the European Film Market in Betlin.
Also starring are Oscar nominated Angela Bassett, Carla Gugino, Oscar nominates Paul Giamatti and Chloe Coleman who will be seen in Avatar 2. Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey will also factor in as well.
Navot Papushado will helm the film and he also co-wrote the script along with Ehud Lavski. This will be Papushado’s English language debut and it sounds like a killer.
Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh, whose company orchestrated the sale, talked about the excitement surrounding the project:
“Gunpowder Milkshake has found the perfect domestic distributor in STX. Produced by our good partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, this ambitious, high-octane action film boasts a top-class lineup of kick-ass and smart female talent who promise to light up audiences worldwide. Adam Fogelson and the team at STX has delivered time and again in this genre with hits such as Hustlers and more recently The Gentleman. Partnering with them on Gunpowder Milkshake will allow us to scale a first-class campaign firmly positioning our film as an event.”
Color me intrigued on this one and I can’t wait to see some first footage for sure. STXfilms will release the film big in theaters and has made a major commitment to it so they definitely liked what they saw.
