Donnie Yen is on fire right now with his last hoorah in Kung Fu, Ip Man 4: The Finale, burning up cinemas worldwide. The film marks Yen’s last foray into the Kung Fu genre and is a wonderfully poetic and brutal finale to his iconic franchise.
With that, we look to the future and Yen is now focusing on more mainstream action pics and last week, we were witness to a neat teaser for his upcoming Raging Fire and now we have an awesome new trailer and poster for Enter The Fat Dragon which is a reimagining of Sammo Hung’s 1978 classic martial arts comedy. Check out the goods below and witness more of Donnie Yen then you can handle!
Fallon Chu (Donnie Yen) is a Hong Kong Police Special Task Force agent. An agile fighter with a high crime detection rate, he’s considered a role-model in the eye of both the police force as well as the public. He gets assigned to a case of escorting a well known criminal to Japan using his experiences and fighting capabilities to keep it safe during the job. Unfortunately, things are not going well in his private life as he has to deal with problems with his fiancee while planning their wedding. After a series of mishaps between them, she suddenly dumps him. Heartbroken he indulges himself in food to relieve his state of shock and loneliness, and in three month’ time his endless intemperance turns him into a 300-pound being.
Yen has been dealing in some pretty weighty subject matter in his recent films and Ip Man 4 is no exception so it’s great to see the icon taking on an action-comedy which pays great homage to Hung’s initial film.
Enter The Fat Dragon will hit Chinese cinemas on January 23rd so expect more worldwide release dates to drop soon. In the meantime, check out a more heavier but still lethal as always Donnie Yen in the new trailer below!
