It’s time to crank up the proton packs as Sony Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife which sees a new generation of ghost chasers answering the call with a little help from a few old friends. Check out the spooky shenanigans below!

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Jason Reitman & Gil Kenan.

The film is a direct sequel to the originals. According to Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, who helmed and wrote the new entry, this film “connects back to the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984” which we all saw in the original movie. In the interview, he elaborated more on the plot. “As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters. Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.” (Per ComingSoon.Net)

Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Oliver Cooper, Bokeem Woodbine and, of course, Ant-Man himself Paul Rudd. Although we don’t see them in the first trailer, it is said that the original cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are expected to be featured in the sequel.

Not sure how the whole Stranger Things vibe will go with die hard fans but this ya a first teaser so the jury is still out on it. Looks interesting though and not showing the original cast is a good thing as we don’t want to see too much.

Hitting theaters on July 10th next summer, who ya gonna call?!!
