UNDISPUTED: Action Star Scott Adkins and Director Isaac Florentine are Ready to Unleash Boyka On the Small Screen!

By: John M Jerva

Back in May, the rather awesome news that iconic action film director Isaac Florentine was developing the Undisputed franchise for the small screen sent massive shock waves through the industry with fans soaking up the news and while it wasn’t confirmed on whether or not star Scott Adkins, who has starred as MMA bad guy Yuri Boyka for three films would be involved, there was still some cautious optimism as Florentine was involved.

Now we have got the confirmation that everyone has been waiting for as Adkins will indeed be involved with the series and will be reprising his role as the “world’s most complete fighter.” The news comes via Bloody Elbow.com as they state that the action phenom, who is now 43, will indeed reprise his role of Boyka for the small screen and that the show will be focused more on story and character as Adkins admits that he’s not the beast he once was when he did the other films.

In an interview with Polygon, Adkins stated: “The 28-year-old Scott Adkins was a f-cking beast. When I did Undisputed II … I’m not going to be able to outdo that guy anymore. So for me, the interest is going toward filmmaking, story, character, acting.”

According to Bloody Elbow, the Undisputed series will be set in New York and “will follow Boyka as he goes out on parole and into the high stakes world of international underground fighting. The crime drama won’t just be about the illegal fights, but the lucrative and intricate dealings associated with it.”

Fear not Adkins fanatics, the human highlight reel will still show off his signature kick ass action but the series will also delve deeper into the high stakes world of the underground fight game and the harsh consequences that come along with it.

Adkins and Florentine first collaborated on 2003’s Special Forces and this will mark 17 years plus that the one-two punch in DTV action flicks will be working together. The two have also worked on the Ninja films as well as Close Range and the upcoming Seized that will hopefully see a release in 2020.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Undisputed films have been watched over a whopping 1.2 billion times so there is definitely an audience for these types of films and TV series. I’ve been saying this all along myself.

The article also states that Adkins would still like to bust out into bigger budgeted Hollywood action films and says that all he wants is a chance to prove himself.

“I would like Hollywood, whoever they are, to at least give me a chance to show what I can do with a real budget and a good script,” Adkins states. This is something that I’ve been promoting for years and have said that Adkins deserves to be on the big screen at the multiplexes just like Van Damne, Seagal and Lundgren have at one time. If anything, Adkins’ recent films such as The Debt Collector and Avengement have proven that the action star is a legitimate threat as he can also dish out the dramatic sides of a story to go along with all the fisticuffs and firepower as well.

There is no details on when the show will air or on what platform but production is said to commence in Bulgaria in March of 2020. With Adkins now confirmed to be involved, expect more news to heat up in the near future so keep it locked and loaded right here as we are your source for everything action and Scott Adkins!
