The verdict is still out on whether or not Gerard Butler will play Mike Banning again in another installment of the Has Fallen franchise but in the meantime, the actor is setting up his next action-thriller titled THE PLANE which is set to run the gambit at the American Film Market next week. Variety dropped the exclusive news today and this one sounds good.

Per Variety: “The Plane” is a real-time action thriller that follows commercial pilot Ray Torrance (Butler), who after a heroic job of successfully landing his storm-damaged aircraft in a war zone, finds himself caught between the agendas of multiple militia who are planning to take the plane and its passengers’ hostage. As the world’s authorities and media search for the disappeared aircraft Ray must rise to the occasion and keep his passengers safe long enough for help to arrive.”

The script is penned by Charles Cumming and J.P. Davis (“Violence of Action”) which is based on the book that Cumming also wrote. Production is being handled by Di Bonaventura’s Lorenzo di Bonvaventura and Mark Vahradian, MadRiver’s Marc Butan and Ara Keshishian. Butler will also produce along with his partner Alan Siegel via their G-BASE production banner.

Butler was last seen this past summer in Angel Has Fallen where he played secret service agent Mime Bsnnning and the third installment was another hit grossing over $133 million worldwide. Butler will be seen next in the thriller Greenland which reunited him with his Angel Has Fallen Director Ric Roman Waugh.

Butler has always been one of my favorite actors and his action movies always bring a great throwback action vibe so I’m excited to see Butler hit the action scene once again.

Production on The Plane will commence next year.
