Well it’s been a long time coming with rumors also swirling that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might even be jumping ship to Marvel but The People’s Hollywood Mega Star has officially confirmed via his Twitter account that production is officially set for next July!
The Rock made the announcement as he responded to a fan who constructed a glorious 1/5 scale sculpture of Rock as Black Adam which you can see below!
Johnson stated in the tweet that the project has been with him for 10 years and thanked him for his support. He then stated that production begins next July which is welcome news as it looked like the film was never gonna happen.
With the success of Shazam! with Zachary Levi, fans have been waiting impatiently for an update on the crossover project. Black Adam was actually supposed to appear in the film but the studio felt he should make his triumphant debut in his own movie. Black Adam was teased though in Shazam! when Djimon Hounsou, who played the wizard of the same name, told his origin story to Billy Batson. Black Adam will be helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) and Johnson will play the role he has wanted to for so long. Serra and Johnson have also worked together on Jungle Cruise which hits theaters next year.
