When the announcement was made that genre favorite Walker: Texas Ranger was going to be reimagined with Supernatural star Jared Padalecki in the lead role of Cordell Walker, the internet went to war to say the least. Many feel that the original Chuck Norris led TV series is untouchable and that Padalecki was the wrong choice for a role like that.

Well regardless of what many fans think, the reimagining of the beloved action show has found its home at the The CW according to Deadline where Padalecki is a staple as he has starred in the hit series Supernatural along with Jensen Ackles for 15 seasons now. CBS, who aired the original version in the 90’s was also a contender. The show is currently in its last run on the network with new episodes premiering weekly. Jared has been on the network for two decades now which was formerly The WB as he also starred on The Gilmore Girls.

Padalecki In Supernatural

Padalecki, who calls Texas his home, was looking for a project after Supernatural where he could work closer to where he lived and he took the opportunity of the reboot in an instant.

The series was at one time rumored to be a sequel to Norris’ show with Padalecki bring a descendant Of Norris’ character but that is not the case as it is a straight up reimagining with a Padalecki making up a new Cordell Walker. Plus this time, he will have a female partner as well.

Norris as the original Walker Texas Ranger

The Synopsis per Deadline: “Like the original series, created by Albert S. Ruddy & Leslie Greif, the reboot, in which Walker is getting a female partner, will explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground. It centers on Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home. He’ll attempt to reconnect with his children, navigate clashes with his conservative family, and find unexpected common ground with his new partner (one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history), while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.”

Let me just say the I have been a lifelong fan of Mr. Norris, his films and the show, and am willing to give it a shot. I love Supernatural as well and I feel Padalecki will bring a new energy to it. After all, I was upset with Norris when he made the Walker reunion movie Trial By Fire And left the fate of one major character hanging in the balance, never to be resolved so you know what, have at it Jared.

The new version of Walker is expected to hit the air during the 2020-2021 season so look out for it next fall. I will surely be interested in it to say the least. Like I always say, I reserve judgement until I see the finished product.
