It’s safe to say the the John Wick films are a blockbuster franchise with each installment outdoing the last in terms of box office gross and action set pieces. The world of John Wick is just getting started and today we have an update on the highly anticipated Starz series The Continental which was announced some time ago.
A new article had surfaced courtesy of The Wrap which sheds some light on the top secret project and COO Jeffrey Hirsch was able to give us just a little morsel of what to except from the spin-off series.
Hirsch recently spoke to The Wrap at the Television Critics Association And the biggest news is that he said the series will be set “way earlier” then the three films in the franchise. The series will serve as basically an origin story of the infamous line of hotels that harbors sage passage for the world’s most dangerous assassins.
Another bit of news that may not sit well with John Wick fans is that the Starz prequel will most likely not debut until Chapter 4 is released in 2021. It was also revealed that Keanu Reeves himself might make guest cameos in the series but unfortunately Hirsch was mum when it came to that detail. “That’s a really good question and we’re not going to answer,” was Hirsch’s only response.
The Continental will be penned and executive produced by Chris Collins who will also serve as the Showrunner and Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk will executive produce besides the first film’s directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, as well as original screenwriter Derek Kolstad and Reeves himself. One piece of juicy news is that Stahelski will helm the pilot episode.
At this time, John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum has grossed over $300 million worldwide making it the most successful entry to date.
For now, we have a long wait for Chapter 4 and the series as they both won’t debut until 2021so keep it locked and loaded right her for all future announcements!
