Back in April, Vin Diesel teased fans with a video that hinted at the fact that WWE superstar and actor John Cena had been added to the cast of the yest to be named Fast And Furious 9 but with the Instagram video, no official confirmation was made at the time.

Well, that all has changed as Deadline has brought word that Cena will indeed br joining the cast of the ninth installment of the blockbuster franchise with Universal Pictures officially confirming the news yesterday. Cena also made the announcement with a post from his Twitter account saying, ” For nearly 20 years, the Fast Franchise has entertained fans and created some of the biggest cinematic moments in history. It’s an incredible honor to join this franchise and this family.”

Of course, Cena’s character is being kept under wraps but it is being reported that it will be a bad ass one. Cen a is coming off appearing in the Transformers spin-off film Bumblebee.

The news comes in the light of some bad publicity for the franchise with longtime producer Neal Moritz reprtedly being fired by Universal for a lawsuit he filed with the studio that included alleged breach of oral contract and allegations of promissory fraud. Series star Michelle Rodriguez also made wave when she went public with demands that the ladies in the films be treated as fairly as the men.

Hopefully, the drama is behind us and with production on the ninth film revving up later this month with Justin Lin returning to the director’s chair, it will be all systems go for the project.

Fast And Furious 9 is set for a May 22nd, 2020 release.
