You know what I was thinking just the other day and this is a true story. I miss the days when we had a Resident Evil flick hitting theaters every so often so I could watch star Milla Jovovich kick some serious booty. Say what you will about the whole franchise and there were definitely highs and lows to them, but Jovovich was sheer force unrivaled in them. She clearly put in the work in the blow shit up and decimate zombies department. Sure, she has done a few thrillers here and there (and no In The Lost Lands with Dave Bautista does not count because that was a massive letdown), but I want full on, battle ready Milla Jovovich kicking into high gear and making fools look stupid.
Well, the day has arrived, or at least the day a new trailer has dropped featuring Jovovich busting heads and taking names like nobody’s business. The film is called Protector, and it stars the genre bending actress as a mother and ex-special forces baddie taking out the trash when her daughter is taken. This once again proves my point to the villains that you should really do your homework while attempting to kidnap someone and make sure that said kidnap victim does not have someone in their family that is an ex-spec ops bad ass looking for an excuse to polish off those lethal skills. In PROTECTOR, former war hero Nikki’s peaceful life is shattered when her daughter is kidnapped. Thrust into the criminal underworld while hunted by cops and the military, she must fight to rescue her child.
It’s important to note that Protector was helmed by Adrian Grünberg who is responsible for Rambo: Last Blood and say what you will about that film, there is no denying that Stallone was unhinged and violently awesome in it. The supporting cast includes Isabel Myers (Mixed-ish) who plays Jovovich’s daughter Chloe as well as Hollywood staples Matthew Modine and D.B. Sweeney lending some legit Hollywood cred to the film. Bong-Seob Mun penned the script.
Upon viewing the trailer, there is nothing original about the plot as it is basically another Taken rehash with Jovovich taking on Liam Neeson’s role. Hell, it even imitates Grunberg’s Rambo film with the human trafficking element but when you have a seasoned Hollywood veteran like Matthew Modine basically serving as The Col. Trautman character to Jovovich and having him spew lines about how bad ass she is like something out of a Seagal film as Jovovich is blasting away John Woo style, who the hell cares. Bring it the F on! I’ll be there and welcome back Milla, you were sorely missed.
