Mark Wahlberg in a scene from Shooter.
Hollywood heavyweight Mark Wahlberg is settling down with Netflix once again as it’s being reported that the star of such Netflix flicks like Spenser Confidential, The Union, and Me Time is suiting up for the streamer’s upcoming black ops actioner titled The Operator. Wahlberg has been living in the streaming world over the last few years, and it does seem to suit him well and now he’s going back to some gritty and dirty military style theatrics for the new film which saw Netflix shell out a pretty penny to acquire the action spec from writer Harrison Query.
According to Deadline, “Wahlberg is playing an ex-Tier One Operator who earns a living as one of the CIA’s invisible clean-up men. When he’s ordered to shepherd his most hated target to safety, the mission turns into a high-stakes cat and mouse game for survival.”
This marks the second acquisition for Querry in as many weeks as the hot writer also sold the new series Trigger Point which will star Joel Edgerton. Aside from writing, Query will also serves as showrunner and executive producer on that one as well.
Wahlberg is no stranger to starring in military or spec ops style action films as he has already appeared in films like Shooter, Mile 22 and Lone Survivor. Netflix is probably hoping that The Operator will serve as the starting point for a franchise if received well and Wahlberg will also produce along with his longtime associate Stephen Levinson. Netflix is definitely all in on Wahlberg so we shall see how this one goes. I’m a sucker for these types of action pics so I’ll be there for sure.
