Right after I got off my live podcast of the NYCC panel for Mortal Kombat II, hosted by game creator Ed Boon himself, Warner Bros. officially released the behind-the-scenes featurette that was shown to the crowd in attendance. The new clip shows off some new footage of the May 2026 release and further elevates the excitement for the sequel. Check out the new video below!
Along with the featurette, the film’s screenwriter Jeremy Slater also announced at the end of the panel that a third film has already been planned for development by Warner Bros and he is returning to pen the third entry as well. This will happen of course if the new film is successful, but it definitely shows that the studio has some faith in what they saw in the second film.
Mortal Kombat II hasn’t even been released yet but there is a significant amount of buzz circling the second film. New Line likes what they see from Slater, so they are already moving full steam ahead for development on the movie.
Of course, there have been no details revealed about possible cast and crew but it’s way too early to even think about any of that until they see how the sequel performs. It is obvious however that New Line is gearing up to make this franchise a real contender at the box office.

Mortal Kombat II was supposed to hit on October 26th, but Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema delayed the film until May 15th of next year as they feel that it is the perfect summer popcorn flick.
Lewis Tan returns as the first film’s hero Cole and the rest of the original cast is back as well including Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mechad Brooks (Jax) and Ludi Lin (Liu Kang). New cast additions include Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Tati Grabrielle (Jade), Martyn Ford (Shao Kahn), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), Ana Thu Nguyen (Queen Sindel), and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi) and Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.
The internet has also revealed the exclusive NYCC Mortal Kombat II poster and you can see it in all its glory below!

The trailer without a doubt has sparked some massive excitement from the studio and fans as well and hopefully this all generates into something real as a long running Mortal Kombat franchise would be the ultimate prize.“Get Over Here!”
