UPDATE: Following the release of new images earlier this week, Amazon Prime has now given us our first look at their upcoming buddy action romp Playdate. I’m sure this one will be forgotten shortly after release but there is a small chance that stars Alan Richson and Kevin James can rais this one to the streaming top of the heap with their chemistry. The trailer doesn’t really do any justice in attempting to excite viewers, but it warrants at least a watch to see if this one can truly make an impact. I must admit that I did chuckle at a few parts son I’m staying cautiously optimistic to say the least. Decide for yourself by scrolling directly below and viewing the new trailer along with the film’s comedy laced poster.
The official synopsis reads: “When recently unemployed accountant Brian agrees to a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff and their sons, he expects an easy afternoon of small talk and football tossing,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “Instead, he’s thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries. Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff’s oddly prepared demeanor. Director Luke Greenfield hilariously collides suburban dad life with high-stakes thrills, transforming an ordinary afternoon into an absurd action-packed adventure where minivan mayhem meets professional hitmen.”

(Original Post) I’m not gonna lie when I say that a lot of times when I post about movies in development that I eventually forget about them until they come to fruition. It’s not a knock on the film by any stretch but there are numerous projects that are announced that never see the light of day so when a film eventually pops back up, I’m usually like, hey it’s that movie.
I give you defense exhibit A in the form of the new and upcoming Amazon MGM Studios action-comedy Playdate which sees Reacher star Alan Ritchson teaming up with resident funny man Kevin James (who’s actually turning into quite the action star as of late) for what hopefully is a healthy dose of 80’s style buddy action theatrics. Ritchson is proving that he has main star quality with his breakout turn in Reacher which also hails from Prime Vide and James locked n loaded for the recent Guns Up which saw him starring as a former hitman.
Amazon MGM has released a salvo of first look images from the film and while I wait to see an actual trailer, my excitement is tempered for this one. Will it be like Tango & Cash or more like Amazon’s recent misfire The Pay Off which teamed Eddie Murphy with a mismatched Pete Davidson. we will have to wait an see but in the meantime, check out Ritchson, James and the cast in the pics below!

One thing that Playdate has going for it is the two leads who I do enjoy to great extent. I’ve been with James ever since The King of Queens and Ritchson has been crushing it in everything that he does so with great chemistry might come a decent buddy actioner.
Luke Greenfield helms the flick from a screenplay penned by Neil Goldman. Ritchson as Jeff Eamon and James as Brian Jennings are joined in the cast by Sarah Chalke as Emily, Alan Tudyk as Simon, Benjamin Pajak as Lucas, Banks Pierce as CJ, and Hiro Kanagawa as Colonel Kurtz, with Stephen Root as Gordon and Isla Fisher as Leslie.
