I have been quite distracted over the last month as my Cleveland Guardians made a historic and improbable mode to the playoffs. Alas, with their elimination yesterday, playoff mode has been deactivated, and I am now catching up with all things action cinema. One of the coolest things to drop this past week was our first look at international action sensation Iko Uwais’ directorial debut Timur. The film is the first in Uwais’ new production banner Uwais Pictures (Catchy, heh?) and we now have some on set goodies that we can share with you as we wait to see how this movie shapes up. Check out the first look video below!
Timur centers on real events in Indonesian history and it “follows the real-life international hostage crisis that took place in Mapenduma in 1996. The subsequent rescue operation was overseen by now-Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The film is Uwais’ directorial debut, and the first action film co-produced out of Indonesia.“
As you can see from the above sneak peek, Uwais will certainly deliver his signature, jaw dropping action design full of savage combat both with weapons and empty hands. Timur marks Uwais’ first directorial effort as well and he also stars along with Andri Mashadi (The Shadow Strays), Yusuf Mahardika (Borderless Fog), Yasamin Jasem (Temurun) and Prabowo Subianto who also happened to be directly involved with Operation Mapenduma back in 1996 so he definitely will bring some legit credentials and authentic drama to the film.
With Timur and his other upcoming projects, Uwais and his team have worked together for years and together they are looking to incorporate “fight choreography, action design, and stunt performance from the inception of its projects.” Other leading members of Uwais Pictures include Ryan Santoso, Chief Executive Producer, along with Yentonius Jerriel Ho, Chief Executive Producer; and Adamy Nurdin, Chief Operating Officer.

When the news first broke of Uwais’ new production banner at Deadline, the star was quoted as saying, “I am excited to unleash the next phase of Uwais Pictures with the release of Timur and Ikatan Darah. We are bringing a new style of action movies for audiences around the world.”
Timur is set to hit Indonesian cinemas on December 18th so expect more worldwide launch announcements coming soon. Lock N Load and check back here in the future for more intel on Timur and Iko Uwais as we are the ultimate destination for your action fix!
