Frank Grillo is embracing his special, operations character trope as the hardest working man in the film industry is starring in his second film where he plays a bad ass operator. With Hounds of War ready to deploy as well in September, Grillo teams up with The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson in a violent tale of a former tier one soldier who must polish off his lethal skill set when family is at stake. Tack up, jock up and watch Grillo deliver some bang and boom for your buck!
SYNOPSIS:
Gunner, a special forces soldier who has witnessed the darkest side of country and combat, is forced back into the field of battle to save his niece, who is being held in South America. As the fight intensifies, Gunner and his team discover that her disappearance is part of a corrupt private operation that hits way too close to home. Acclaimed actors Andy Garcia, Melissa Leo, Josh Hutcherson and Frank Grillo star in a non-stop action thriller that will leave you breathless.

Grillo is always solid in anything he does but this is the type of role the man can do in his sleep and from a filmmaker like Swab, this one looks brutal, bleak and hard hitting with some dark bravado and ultra-violent set pieces reminiscent of 13 Hours. Combine that with a stacked cast that also includes Oscar winner Melissa Leo, Mekhi Pfifer, Eden Brolin (Yellowstone) and Hollywood mainstay Andy Garcia at his slimy and vile best and this one might sneak up as a contender for one of the best action films of the year right along Land of Bad in terms of military carnage.

Upon watching the trailer, a keen observer might recognize actor Beau Knapp as one of Grillo’s fellow mercs. Knapp is currently killing it on the last season of SEAL Team as Drew Franklin, so he looks right at home here sniping baddies in the dark and dirt. A true test on whether these types of movies will hit the mark is if the actors look the part and here, the men ooze spec ops coolness. As a fan of both Grillo and military style action, combining these two is a grand slam and this movie will most likely play well in a double bill with Grillo’s other mercenary actioner hitting Hounds of War from iconic action director Isaac Florentine. Is it a coincidence that these two films with Grillo both come out on September 20th? Nope. I think it’s marketing brilliance and that weekend is going to rock. It’s time to go loud!
