Military movies are my forte and military action films are definitely right within my enjoyment wheelhouse, so I’m intrigued to say the least to check out Lionsgate’s upcoming military themed film as it looks to take the genre and drop it on its collective head. Titled The Abandon, the new movie hails from executive producer Jonathan Rosenthal (2020’s Alone) who also headlines the movie as a soldier who is having a really bad day when he finds himself in a constant struggle to survive when he finds himself the prisoner of a mysterious cube. Although this one looks more psychological thriller than war film, it still looks fresh and inviting. Check out the new trailer, key art and specs below!
SYNOPSIS
Injured U.S. soldier Miles Willis (Rosenthal) awakens after witnessing a blinding white light on a battlefield in Iraq to discover he is trapped in a mysterious cube armed only with his combat gear. His dire situation escalates as the cube begins to change with violent shifts in gravity and the appearance of cryptic writing on the walls. As Miles begins to question his sanity, he finds a lifeline – a voice on the other end of his satellite phone who claims to be a prisoner in a similar space. As the walls close in, these two strangers must put their heads together if they are to outwit their captors and unlock this deadly puzzle.

A wounded soldier awakens in a strange cube that tests his physical and mental limits as he attempts to find a way to escape against a ticking clock in THE ABANDON, coming to theaters July 19 and On Demand and Digital on July 30 from Lionsgate.
