UPDATE: Along with the initial image of how the practical effect werewolves will look that was teased a few years back, we now have a stunning close up of the beast itself. Some will pass it off as cheap and/or fake looking but I love the look and feel that it pays direct homage to classic genre films like An American Werewolf in Paris and Company of Wolves. Check out the new image of the snarling creature of the moon below! Chef’s kiss to all the special effects crew on this one. You’re literally bringing back my childhood with this one.

(Original Post) Hey! Who remembers a few years back when I first announced a brand-new thriller starring Frank Grillo that involved a lot of werewolves? Did you forget? Well, it’s OK because many times indie actioners are forgotten about while they wait to finally be released to the masses. For a refresher, check out my initial post below!
Ok, moving on. I bring good news and bad news for all you Grillo fanatics out there as his werewolf themed horror pic (formerly known as Year 2) has just been acquired by Briarcliff & The Solution for release! The movie will now be known as Werewolves which makes since as year 2 was rather vague but that title did figure prominently into the synopsis. Steven C. Miller (Line Of Duty), who has helmed many a DTV action pics, directs this one as well from a script penned by Matthew Kennedy (Inheritance).
The plot for Werewolves sounds rather juicy (see what I did there?) as it involves a supermoon that turns anyone who stands in its light into a bloodthirsty and ravenous werewolf. I’m intrigued. Check out the official synopsis below courtesy of Deadline!
In Werewolves a supermoon event triggers a latent gene in every human on the planet, turning anyone who entered the moonlight into a werewolf for that one night. Chaos ensued and close to a billion people died. Now, a year later, the Supermoon is back.

Grillo stars with a stacked cast that includes Katrina Law (NCIS), Ilfenesh Hadera (Godfather Of Harlem), James Michael Cummings (City On The Hill) and one of my all-time favorites in Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns).
I love the fact director Steven C. Miller and company are doing it old school with practical effects and not CGI as it harkens back to the days of old with films like The Howling and American Werewolf in London. I’m all for anything old school mixed with kick ass so sign me up for this one ASAP.
Here comes the bad news portion of the post. While the film is going to be released, it isn’t going to hit until later this year in December. Don’t shoot the messenger. I guess Grillo is always worth the wait and to see him battle a horde of razor-sharp clawed werewolves that used to be human is well worth the wait we have to endure. the official launch date is December 6, 2024, and the article says that they are looking to put this one on the big screen so here’s hoping that comes to fruition.
Now if we can just get Grillo’s Hounds of War, which was directed by the great Isaac Florentine, to come out, I’ll be a happy camper. Lock N Load right here for more future Grillo goodness!
