It’s been a busy week for me but as Friday has come and the anticipation of another glorious weekend here in Panama City, I wouldn’t be doing my due diligence as an action cinema blogger if I didn’t share the new trailer for the bat shit crazy looking assassin thriller Kitty the Killer. The name alone is worth it and upon viewing said trailer, genre disciples will definitely get their fill of bloodletting including massive sequences of nameless goons being dispatched by katanas. Let’s watch!
Synopsis: A highly trained teenage assassin, Dina, and her mentor, Charlie, form an unlikely duo as they unexpectedly join forces to stop a sinister plot and save millions of lives.
Even the synopsis leaves most scratching their heads but who really cares as this piece of celluloid is loaded with insane sword action, coupled with bloody martial arts carnage infused with ANIME. Yep, you heard me right. There’s a distinct Kill Bill homage flair in some of the action scenes and one girl is even wearing the yellow outfit Uma Thurman wore in Volume 1. I’m sold. Plus, I’m also digging the chick wearing the mask that looks like Vega from Street Fighter. Kudos all around on this one and once again I knew nothing about this one until it popped up on my YouTube feed. Lucky me.
You can’t beat a bloody assassin flick from Thailand that features on hell of an adorable kitten. Let’s just hope it survives until the credits roll.
The movie comes from Thai director Lee Thongkham who is best known for genre fair like The Last One and The Maid. The movie premiered last year at the NYAFF garnering the filmmaker a festival award and it looks well deserved from the look of things. Ploypailin Thangprapaporn looks to kill it as Dina with Denkhun Ngamnet watching her six as Charlie. They definitely are put through the gauntlet and ringer here as the pic looks to be packed with stylized combat and choreography.
We won’t have long to wait to see this one as it’s set to hit a limited theatrical run on May 3rd followed by a Digital launch on May 7th. Sharpen those claws action divas!
