It’s been a hot minute since we have had any new output from action icon jean-Claude van damme. After all, the last film we all talked about was 2021’s Netflix action-comedy The Mercenary which was a massive misfire for the Muscles from Brussels. The film was highly anticipated but upon release, fans were not digging the goofy nature of the flick. It had some substantial action in it but at th end of the day it was a misstep in JCVD’s action filmography.
Well, it looks like JCVD has indeed seen the error of his ways as his next project is anything but silly and goofy. The aptly named and foreboding thriller is called Darkness of Man and this is a gritty and unapologetic looking action-drama with Van Damme looking to sink his teeth into some serious and heavy drama. In the down and dirty drama, Van Damme stars as a former Interpol agent who risk his own life to protect the child of a former informant killed earlier when said child is placed in the middle of a bloody gang war. Check out JCVD in action below!
Synopsis: Russell Hatch (Jean Claude Van Damme) is a washed-up, former Interpol operative who vowed to protect the son of an informant killed years earlier in a raid gone wrong. When merciless street gangs start an all-out turf war and the kid is caught in the middle, Hatch will stop at nothing to keep him safe and fight anyone who gets in his way.

Van Damme stars along a very capable supporting cast including Kristanna Loken, Emerson Min, Spencer Breslin with Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones and Shannen Doherty.
This trailer gets me excited for the actual movie as Van Damme looks in fine form serving up some pretty brutal and unflinching fight choreography. This one looks ultra-violent and hyper-kinetic with Van Damme doing what he does best and it’s looking like some old school Van Dammage to satisfy the genre fans m. Bring it on!
Darkness of Man hits Digital on May 21st!
