If you’re feeling nostalgic for the good ol days of video stores and countless martial arts action flicks littering the shelves, then it’s time to get excited as the ultimate homage to that epic era is on its way. The Last Kumite promises the look, feel and most importantly the bone cracking action wrapped in a throwback package of extreme martial arts adrenaline that will get genre fans lathered into a frenzy when heroes like Van Damme helicopter kicked their way into our hearts.
With a cast of who’s who of 80’s & 90’s beatdown fury including Billy Blanks, Cynthia Rothrock, Matthias Hues, Tong Po himself Michel Qissi and Kurt McKinney, this film is essentially a Time Machine waiting to teleport us back to when at least five underground fighting films premiered every week. Check out the official trailer and key art below!
Official Synopsis: When Karate champion Michael Rivers (Mathis Landwehr) wins the last tournament of his career, shady businessman Ron Hall (Matthias Hues) offers him the opportunity to fight in an illegal, deadly Kumite in Bulgaria with the world’s best martial artists. Michael declines, only to find out later that his daughter Bree has been kidnapped and that in order to rescue her, he is left with no other option but to fight in the deadly tournament.

When he finally gets to Bulgaria, he finds out that he is not the only fighter whose loved one got taken. Now, in order to beat the undefeated Kumite Champion Dracko, Michael trains with Master Loren (Billy Blanks), and Dracko’s former Sensei, Julie Jackson (Cynthia Rothrock). But will it be enough for him to win the tournament and save his daughter’s life?“

Everything from the standard tournament revenge plot to the wonderfully low budget production values and the insane and body breaking fight choreography just screams let’s drive on down to the local video store and rent as many of these films as we can.
Just in case this didn’t look and feel like a movie that was rented from Blockbuster back in the day, Bloodsport music composer Paul Herzog brings his glorious 80’s synthesizer, bravado vibe to the proceedings with Stan “The Man” Bush offering his vocal stylings for the movie’s main theme song. Ross W. Clarkson directs.
German martial arts action whiz Mike Möller crafted the fight sequences and did I forget to mention that Bolo Yeung’s own son David “Bolo Jr.” Yeung stars in the movie as well. Yeah they pulled out all the stops with this one. This one is all about the action and it looks like fans will be treated in spades.
