We finally have some release Intel for John Woo’s first American movie in over two decades. An ambitious undertaking as well as the movie, called Silent Night, will have no lines of dialogue spoken at all. This is a case of the action truly doing the talking for the running time.
Suicide Squad’s Joel Kinnaman stars in the actioner as a grieving father who takes aim for vengeance when his son is ruthlessly gunned down by gang crossfire on Christmas Eve. Bullets will fly and bad guys will die along with Woo’s trademark Gun Fu set pieces.
Official Synopsis: From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes the gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, Kinnaman makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death. Full of Woo’s signature style, Silent Night redefines the action genre with visceral thrill-a-minute storytelling.
Catalina Sandino Moreno (The Quarry) and Harold Torres (ZeroZeroZero) also star in the bullet ballet thriller.
Lionsgate officially announced that Silent Night will get a release on December 1st and if the film is a hit with genre fans then we might have another contender for favorite holiday action film.
Woo is one of action cinema’s most revered maestros so expect stunts galore, brutal violence and double fisted gun action. Kinnaman is definitely a physical actor so he should fair well in the set pieces and speaking with his facial expressions and body.
