When I receive an email for a new movie and the tagline is Ninjas, Bullets, Swords and Revenge, you can pretty much bet that my curiosity has been peeked. Throw in the fact that said movie is Tarantino inspired and, well, you had me at Ninjas. Such is the case for the actioner Once Upon a Time in Ukraine which hails from director Roman Perfilyev and stars Roman Lutskyi (REFLECTION), Sergey Strelnikov (EKATERINA), and Gen Seto (THE FOREST). This looks like on hell of a wild ride and the results will be a bloody good time for genre fans so scroll down to view an exclusive clip from the film that you will only see here at Action-Flix along with tantalizing key art, stills and trailer. OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:

 The Tarantino-inspired actioner ONCE UPON A TIME IN UKRAINE, directed by Roman Perfilyev. Ninjas, bullets, swords, and revenge drive the blood-soaked story, starring Roman Lutskyi (REFLECTION), Sergey Strelnikov (EKATERINA), and Gen Seto (THE FOREST).

The Ukranian-language film follows the samurai Akayo as he enters the territory of Ukraine, seeking revenge on the Japanese Harimoto—a buyer of slaves from a Ukrainian master. On his way, Akayo teams up with the serf Taras, who is also guided by personal revenge and wants to organize the release of his beloved. Their journey is full of peril, chaos, and a few laughs along the way too. 

Samuel Goldwyn Films, who will be releasing the movie this coming Friday, April 14th, has given Action-Flix exclusive access to the new trailer as well as an action-packed fight clip from the film that you will only see here at your destination for everything action. This one looks to blend several genres and infuse hyper-kinetic violence and fight choreography for a bloody good time so check out the exclusive footage below!

There’s a lot to be said about films like this that takes chances. Sure, it won’t hit the mainstream audiences but for genre fans such as myself, this is exactly the kind of go for broke cinema that we are sorely lacking in today’s times. Once Upon a Time in Ukraine looks to meld genres together with blistering fight sequences and low brow humor to tell a different kind of a story. If you’re looking for something a little different but at the same time has all the qualities you have come to love in an action movie, then this is definitely for you. After all, you all know my rule for anything…add ninjas to it and it automatically becomes all kinds of awesome.
