With John Wick: Chapter 4 right around the corner, action cinephiles are going to get a mega dose of adrenaline pumping fight sequences courtesy of director Chad Stahelski and the 87Eleven action team. It’s no secret that the action unit has been responsible for some of the best action output in movies in recent years and now they’re setting their sights on an all female action extravaganza.
Word has come down that producer David Leitch and his 87NORTH production banner is readying a new action pic with Gunpowder Milkshake star Lena Headey at the helm. Not to be confused with the John Wick spin-off Ballerina that is also in development, this one is called Ballerina Overdrive and will feature some incentive action set pieces.
The film follows a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a dance competition.

Headey will star alongside some up and coming talent including Yara Shahidi (Peter Pan & Wendy), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Lana Condor (Moonshot), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) and Iris Apatow (The Bubble). The Witcher: Blood Origin director Vicky Jewson is set to helm the ambitious pic.
Leitch will serve as producer along with 87North’s Kelly McCormick (Bullet Train), David Leitch (Bullet Train) and Annie Marter (Violent Night) from a script penned by Kate Freund (Afterlife). The action and fight sequences will be handled by stunt maestros Heidi Moneymaker and Renae Moneymaker (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Project Artemis) and will feature some innovative dance based action set choreography.
Cameras will roll on Ballerina Overdrive in Serbia during the second quarter of 2023 so expect more details to follow!
